Things were looking grim for a while there last week... It had been raining for what seemed like weeks, and there was no sign that it would stop in time for our annual Comics for Charity (C4C) event. Our event is part of an outdoor arts festival, and it's just not the same when we need to move to the arena due to rain!
But our prospects brightened at the last minute and not a drop of rain fell all week-end! In fact, it was beautiful and warm on Saturday, and everyone enjoyed walking around in our beautiful town, dubbed the Gingerbread Capital of Ontario (gingerbread architecture, not cookies!).

I was disappointed that we only sold half of our limited edition prints; I thought those would go like hotcakes! Despite that, and the fact that the biggest supporter we had in the past couldn't come this time, we still managed to raise $585 more than last year!
The final tally, you ask?! Thanks to the amazing support of our friends, family, fans and town residents, we raised $3340 this year! That's almost enough to feed 3 of the refuge's 75 horses for one year (it costs about $1200 per year per horse). For more information on Refuge RR for Horses, check out their website.
Our favorite part of the week-end (and any comic book event, actually) is that we get to see "our regulars" and make new friends. Very warm thanks to Vito and Claudio (folks thought they were our bodyguards!), Colin, Tate, Alain, Michel and Jean, our regulars! The ever-awesome Tate is the lucky new owner of the original Guardian sketch we were auctioning off. We also got to know great new people, including die-hard comic book fan Stone, who came with his adorable mom Elizabeth and her fiancé Chuck (thanks for the lovely gift and for your help loading up after the show!), Jean-François and Sylvain, Mrs. Landry, Dwayne, Evan, Marco, Corey and Angie, and the super sweet Trevor and Dallas. There were also great friends and locals, including Mark, Jason, Miria, Anne-Marie and Edwige, Simon, Elisabeth G., my mom and family friend Mr. Mitchell, Dale's mom (who sold several prints!), Mr. St-Denis, Louise and Pierre, Jennifer and so many others! Warm thanks to all of you.
We noticed two very neat things this year: First, many visitors were from out of town, as several had read about the event in the Ottawa Citizen and came from Ottawa to see Dale. Second, I'd say most people came with their spouse and/or children. It's something you don't always see at a comic book convention, so I think this is one thing that sets this event apart from others. Thanks for choosing us as your family outing for the week-end!
And now, some photos. Enjoy, and we hope to see even more of you next year!

Many thanks to Michel and Trevor for the scans, and to Michel for the 9th picture.

That was a sketch commission Dale did on-site for Michel, who came to the event.
I didn't know you weren't in North America! Where do you live?
