Hello everyone,

So it's been a full week since the marvelous Montréal Comiccon. Thank you for your patience as you waited for this blog to come out. As soon as we got back, Dale put his nose back to the ol' grindstone (gotta get that last issue of Steve Rogers:Super Soldier out, and it's a doozy!). So that meant no blog writing for him. In fact, I should go check if he's alive... he may be trapped in his office!

As for yours truly, I'm thrilled and excited to announce that I HAVE BRENT SPINER'S GERMS!!!! Okay, I can't know for sure that he's the one who gave me this blasted cold, but I CHOOSE to believe it was him. Oh, the fool I made of myself when I met him... Worthy of the Galaxy Quest fanboys, no less... See pic for full goofy effect.
Now down to business. The show was amazing. Major props to organizers Alex, Oscar and Elizabeth for taking this little show from its attendance of 700 in 2007 to 8,300 this past week. AND Elizabeth had just given birth a few weeks ago (we got to meet her baby, Niko, sooo tiny!). I seriously don't know how she did it. Incredible. We hadn't planned on attending any events this year, but we always go to this convention to show our support. I was telling them that they don't need us anymore, they're big enough now, but I'll add an addendum to that: I hereby publicly declare that if they get Patrick Stewart next year, we shall return! (Machiavellian plan on my part...)

Now, highlights of the show: Unfortunately, I had actual black-outs and forgot whole events from the show. I'm guessing they were due to two nights without sleep and a cold starting. So if I forget you, blame Data!
First, it was great to meet new folks: We had a great time sitting next to Darick and Meredith Robertson, and look forward to seeing them again. So fun and sweet. And on the fan side, some of the standout new folks included Will, Yann, Marco, Renaud & Isabelle, Vito, Stéphane and Patrick... And among regular convention friends, it was great to chat with Clément Sauvé, and to catch a glimpse or two of Ethan Van Sciver, but he kept disappearing on us! Hope you had an okay time, Ethan! Sorry to have missed you... :-( And it's always such a joy to see Herb Trimpe and his lovely wife Patricia, who was selling some very pretty jewellery she has made. I indulged and bought one, natch.

I also caved for one of our friend (and inker extraordinaire) Serge Lapointe's awesome belts! (www.totemcollection.com) Thanks, Serge, you're the bestest!! :-) Here's a picture of it:

Among the familiar faces this year, there was the usual die-hard gang: Michel, Alain, Dr. Pepper, Mitch, Jeremy, Tate (check out his tattoo of one of Dale's sketches!), Colin... You guys are so awesome. You MAKE these events for us. Instead of being overwhelming, the shows are like family gatherings. THANK YOU. *hugs* There were a few newish or semi-regular faces, like Bao, Jean, and Pierre -- great seeing you again! It was also wonderful to see Kevin and Matt from FanExpo, who came to give a hand. You guys made a big difference, which was much appreciated, but even more importantly, you're such sweethearts that we always love seeing you regardless of the context.
If I've forgotten anyone, again, please forgive me!
Our resolution for the next time we do a convention: to have Dale take on fewer sketch requests so he can actually look up from his drawing board once in a while and socialize a bit. It's tough, because he doesn't want to disappoint anyone. Or maybe he should only do headshots. A dilemma. Do you, dear readers, have an opinion on the issue?

Now, as usual, I'm including a few pics from the week-end. There a photo or two of the amazing view we had at Château Champlain (their French onion soup is to die for, by the way -- it's made with "Maudite" beer).

Enjoy the pics, and feel free to share your comments (click on the blue "Post Comment" link after the series of pictures).
Thanks for a great week-end, everyone!

It was great to see the two of you once again. Ainsley and I had a great time at the show, nice pic of the two of us! Thanks for the great Punisher sketch, it has been added to my "Eaglesham Collection". It was also great to purchase my first piece of original artwork.
